Introduction:

Land Rover, the giant automobile manufacturer, is a UK based automobile company which specializes in four wheel drive vehicles. The company came up with its exquisite compact SUV under the name tag Freelander in 1997. The second generation of this SUV was launched as Freelander 2 in 2006. Just like most of the other cars in the segment, Freelander 2 uses a monocoque structure and is based on the Ford EUCD platform. After tasting a sweet success in Europe and Middle East, this SUV envisages to achieve the same in Bangladesh as well.

Engine mileage and variant

Freelander 2 comes in 3 variants namely S, SE, and HSE, each with different desirable features. The 2.0 litre petrol engine churns out a maximum power of 177 kW at 5000 rpm along with a peak torque of 340 Nm at 3200 rpm. While the 2.2 litre diesel engine churns out a maximum power of 110 kW at 4000 rpm coupled with a peak torque of 420 Nm at 1750 rpm. With this engine, you can accelerate from naught to 100 km/hr in 8.8 seconds, clocking a top speed of 200 kmph. The diesel engine consumes 6 litres of fuel for a stretch of 100 kms which is appreciable.

Exteriors:

Freelander 2 with its sleek lines yet modern and bold looks stands apart from the crowd. The dimensions of this SUV are 4500 mm x 2005 mm x 1740 mm with a generous wheel base of 2660 mm. The boot capacity with rear seats folded come as 1570 litres which is large enough to store ample luggage on your holidays. Enhancing the personality of the car are the grille bars with brunel grill surround, enormous head lamps with courtesy delay, front windscreen side fender vents in brunel, side repeater lamps, door handles in matt black, side body mouldings, tail gate mounted spoiler with LED rear lamps and signature strip with bright insert at rear. The electric panoramic sunroof and the 17 inch 6 spoke alloy wheels further add to the dynamism of the car.

Interior:

The interiors offered by this SUV are classy with a range of colour and upholstery choices available. The comfort of driver and passengers are duly taken care of with comfortable seats, armrests and generous leg room, head room and shoulder room. For driver's convenience, Freelander offers power steering wheels with control buttons and cruise control system, instrument panel and cluster, electric windows at front and rear. Other features to make journey comfortable are central console storage, map pockets, 12 V power sockets, manual air conditioner and audio system which supports CD/DVD/ MP3 format. Freelander 2 also supports a 5 inch colour screen with eight speakers and USB port and blue tooth connectivity.

Safety, braking and miscellaneous

The British automakers have kept in mind the maximum security of the passengers and have equipped Freelander with ample of safety features. These features include the stability assists like the Hill Start Assist (HSA), four-wheel Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Electronic Air Suspension and Terrain Response system and precise braking controls like the Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Four-Channel all Terrain Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The SUV also features passive engine immobilization and upto 8 airbags.
